STEM Fun!

26th Feb 2019

Lots of practical fun was had today with the STEM Aware team and our friends from Gillygooley. Children discussed air resistance and gravity as they constructed spinners and investigated how their spinners fell, the direction they fell and the pace/speed they travelled. Many spinners were brightly decorated and weighted with paper clips as children raced their spinners to the ground from an equal height. Children discussed concepts such as fair testing.

A second lesson discussed the history of catapults and children were excited at the prospect of constructing their own simple versions of these Greek weapons of destruction! We then investigated whose catapult could fire paper pellets the furthest. Sadly on this occasion, Recarson was beaten by our Gillygooley friends.
